After my dog Max's health scares last summer (an abcess and some kind of scary
digestive illness, followed by conjunctivitis), Max had been pretty
healthy, other than his arthritis, which has plagued him for the past
few years (he's now 13 and a half years old).
A week ago, we took him to PetSmart to get groomed, and afterwards, I
noticed what appeared to be some swelling under one of his eyes. I
figured it was just one of his lumps or bumps that I couldn't see
because his fur was so long before, or that maybe his skin was just
irritated from the shampoo and didn't think much of it.
A few days after that, I thought I noticed that his eyes were a bit
pinker than usual, but it was nothing like when he had conjunctivitis
before, so again, I wasn't toooo concerned. But the next morning, he
could barely open his eyes. They were swollen and red and horrible. So
off to the vet we went. She said he didn't have a fever or anything,
but it was some sort of conjunctivitis, and she prescribed an ointment
and said we should see improvement within a week. It's only been a
couple of days, but there's really no improvement, and this morning,
his NECK was swollen. So I am incredibly worried.
He was just laying around, didn't want to get up and go outside, though
he did sit up when I dropped a Cheerio, so he's still at least that
alert. I had to go into work this morning, because I'm already taking a
half day to go to the eye doctor later and I needed to get something to
someone on deadline that I couldn't do from home, so my mom is taking
him to the vet, hopefully as we speak. She did call while I was on the
train to tell me that Max HAD gotten up and went outside and was a bit
more perky, but she might've just told me that because I was crying on
my way out the door. Anyway, we'll see what the news is when I get
home.
Please pray for him, or send happy thoughts, or whatever you do.
Thanks so much.
